Rita Repulsa is an evil witch from space who threatens the Earth, leading her old enemy Zordon to assemble the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers to stop her in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Animated Series.

History[]

Past[]

Sometime twelve to ten thousand years ago, Rita sought to conquer many worlds in the universe. Among the opposition was Zordon. War broke out between Rita and Zordon and his forces. This war stretched for 2,000 years and across countless planets. Many of Rita's minions would prove victorious in battle with Zordon's warriors, such as the finest warrior of Tarmac III.

Sometime during the conflict, Rita entered into service to the great Lord Zedd, who assigned her to conquer Earth. She and her henchmen occupied a palace on Earth's Moon, located directly above the location of the powerful Zeo Crystal. It was also during this period that Rita discovered the Dragon Power Coin, the Dragon Dagger, and the Dragonzord. It was also known that Zordon came into the possession of the other five Power Coins and a map to the Desert of Despair, through unknown means. Throughout most of the war, Rita and her forces held a massive advantage in numbers over Zordon.

In the closing days of the war, Rita would enact one final act of defiance by using her powers to attempt to banish Zordon into a time warp in which he existed outside normal time. However, something happened that Rita could not have anticipated before it was too late occurred that would derail all of her efforts, a team of five time-travelling Future Rangers would arrive and defeat her, despite Lord Zedd himself personally intervening and hiring the evil bounty hunter Darkonda to help. With the assistance of Zorion of Eltar and Trey of Triforia, Zordon would defeat Zedd and force him to retreat before sealing Rita and her remaining minions in a space dumpster where they were to reside for eternity. Return to Earth[]

Rita had been sealed in her dumpster for nearly 10,031 years before it found its way back to the moon. Not long after, a pair of curious astronauts stumbled upon the strange container and broke the seal that kept Rita's evil at bay. Released from her prison, she destroyed the dumpster and quickly set her sights on Earth. Reoccupying her palace which had lay vacant for eons, Rita sent her chief warrior, Goldar, to Earth to lay siege to the world. However, Rita was met by her Zordon, who managed to gather new warriors. Beginning her second invasion of the planet, Rita's monsters were constantly defeated by Zordon's Power Rangers, teenage humans who wielded the mighty Power Coins. It's Morphin Time!

MM Rita Repulsa Switching Places

Rita watching the Rangers battle her giant monster.

Rita largely relied on monsters created by her loyal minions Finster or with the help of other mystic allies such as Madame Woe or Lokar, her master stroke came in creating a sixth Ranger to combat Zordon's warriors. Rita secured 2 Green Candles to aid in her next scheme.

Having long ago come into the possession of a power coin, Rita selected one of the Rangers' own classmates, Tommy Oliver, to become her Green Ranger. While this proved effective for a time, Rita's plan was ultimately foiled when the Rangers broke her spell and brought Tommy back to the side of good. A year after being freed from her dumpster Rita was horrified when a storm of dark energy began to erupt throughout surrounding space. Evil Green Ranger

Banished[]

Eventually Rita's previously loyal general Goldar turned on her. Informing her boss Lord Zedd of Rita's performance and inability to conquer the Earth after several millennia, Zedd is disgusted and sends the witch Evil-Lyn, who has recently entered his employ, to aid the warrior in removing Rita from power. Sealing her away once more in a space dumpster, Rita is cast back out into the void only to swear revenge. Goldar & Cyclopsus

Personality[]

Rita Repulsa is a diabolical yet bad-tempered and unpleasant leader of her band of space aliens who speaks in a screechy voice akin to storybook witches. Whenever her latest plan gets foiled by the Rangers, she either cries out "I have a headache!" dismay or prone to take her frustration out on her underlings, or even both even if they have absolutely nothing to do with what went wrong. Her most recurring victim of this abuse is Goldar which was evident in that he gladly turned against her and plotted with an absent Lord Zedd to overthrow her out of his abuse.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Power: Rita was the main antagonist of the first half of Season 1, making her far stronger than any of her minions and monsters. Despite Rita's powerful displays of magic, she appears to be one of the weaker spell casters in the universe of Power Rangers: The Animated Series. Her magic also seems to be limited, as she has to rely on Finster and his Monster-Matic to create monsters and putties.
  • Mistress of Magic: A name given to her by Zordon. Rita Repulsa was shown to be skilled in the fields of magic. Most notable among her magic arsenal is her power to enlarge monsters and other beings with her staff, by throwing it towards the Earth with extreme accuracy.
    • Virtual Immortality: Rita survived at least ten thousand thirty-one years in a dumpster.
    • Teleportation: Rita could teleport to any location at will.
    • Evil Being Summoning: Another magical ability notable to her is to communicate and summon dark spiritual beings, as she summoned Lokar on two occasions.
    • Curses: Rita is also adept at casting curses on her enemies, as she was able to immobilize the Dragonzord with dark magic.
    • Magical Brainwashing: Also notable is Rita's ability to brainwash other people, turning them into her loyal and evil servants, as she did this to Tommy with few complications.

Magic Wand

  • Magic Wand: Rita's main weapon was a large wand which has many abilities.
    • Energy Blasts: Rita could fire a pink beam of energy from her staff which explodes on contact. This were powerful enough to destroy the dumpster that she and the others were trapped in for 10,031 years and vaporize the two astronauts that released her.
    • Sinkhole Creation: While on Earth during Goldar & Cyclopsus, Rita could fire pink electricity from her wand, which would open a sinkhole directly beneath the opponent, causing them to sink into the earth. In the aforementioned Doomsday episode, she used this ability to make Titanus sink into the earth, however, Zordon later reversed the spell, bringing Titanus back to life in the process.
    • Monster Enlargement: Rita's primary ability with her wand. By chanting "magic wand, make my monster/Goldar grow" and throwing her want to Earth, Rita could open a giant chasm in the ground which gives the monster enough energy to grow.
    • Teleportation Beam: Rita could fire a green energy beam from the pink jewel on her wand capable of teleporting other beings around. She only used this to teleport Tommy to a beach to fight her Putties in the episode "Evil Green Ranger."
