Synopsis[]

In a post-apocalyptic galaxy after an evil alien army known as the Arkeyans has destroyed Earth, many of its survivors have been forced into the Destiny space station, for it is their last safe haven from the alien army. To combat this threat, Star Battleforce cadets Arthur, Ryan, Megan and Moose are selected by Colonel Xiao Longbao to serve as part of the S.B.F.'s Ranger Series Program.

Plot[]

In 2073, the Arkeyan Empire has decimated Earth and all 88 Universal Sectors of the galaxy. Around a majority of Earth's survivors are taken onboard many space stations commissioned by the Universal Alliance, mainly the Destiny, the main office of Star Battleforce (S.B.F.), the Alliance's millitary wing. To combat the threat of the Arkeyans, and their ongoing campaign to occupy the entire galaxy, Star Battleforce has begun a campaign to accquire Sector Keys across Universal Sectors, with the hopes of building an army of Power Rangers to lead the fight back. Among the cadets taking part as candidates are humans Phil Bell, Megan Sawyer and Ryan Torres, and the android Class M-568 - better known as Moose, who are ultimately chosen by the Destiny's commanding officer, Colonel Xiao Longbao as the three successful candidates as members of the S.B.F. Ranger Program, for their impressive successes against their competitors.

Meanwhile, several new cadets are arriving on board the Destiny; among those cadets is Arthur Morgan, who has spent only a week at Star Battleforce prior to his arrival. As he explores the station, he is greeted by Joi, the station's first officer, who shows him around the Destiny and shows him how their technology works, before telling him about four people being recently chosen for a special initiative to counterattack the Arkeyans. She then asks Arthur if he would like to interview the four chosen cadets, so more info about them can be reported to Colonel Xiao; Arthur agrees. In the promanade, Bell, Megan, Moose and Ryan are at the bar talking about this "ranger program", as Ryan, points out that there have been sharp declines in Power Ranger teams over the past five decades after the Morphin Grid had dissipated due to man-made activity to replicate the grid. Arthur then approaches them, and assumes that they are the four cadets chosen by Colonel Xiao. In response, Moose and Megan introduce themselves to Arthur - easily warming up to him, although Ryan seems slightly skeptical as he suspects him as a "sprout", a name given to a new recruit. Bell, however, is too busy dealing with aliens at the bar, and ends up in a fight with a few aliens. As all of this happens, Arthur easily interviews Megan, Ryan and Moose, even though he seems baffled by Moose's accent contrasting his imposing appearance.

Elsewhere, Star Battleforce forces attack an Arkeyan stronghold, and go as far as destroying an Arkeyan warship in the progress. Inside the Arkeyans' temple on Planet Xibalba, the Arkeyans' leader - known simply as "His Magnificence", and his senators, Z'Aezoth and Gazla, are overseeing Arkeyan defences. On the ground, troops of Roswells and Moonbillies storm the battlefield, causing ground forces to fall back. His Magnificence, seeking to conquer more territory, sends out his general, Volstagg, to send Arkeyan millitia to occupy Planet New Austin, in a bid to reinforce his empire's desire to control the galaxy. Back on the Destiny, Arthur gives the info he obtained from the three cadets via interview to Joi. Across the promenade, Bell is bullying a young cadet for a towel. As Joi, who notices this, stands up for the young cadet and hands a towel to Bell, telling him "here's a towel" instead. Bell then turns his attention to Joi, but amid a minor scuffle, Colonel Xiao witnesses the event, and Joi is summoned back, as Bell is cornered by station security. Down the hallways, Colonel Xiao and Joi are discussing Bell's behavior, and whether he can be taken seriously with his attitude in the long term; Joi brings up about Arthur as a possible replacement, stating that he impressed her with the way he interviewed the three chosen cadets. Colonel Xiao is intrigued by Joi's comments about Arthur, and he says he will speak to him.

Moose, Megan, and Ryan head to the waiting room as they have an appointment with Colonel Xiao; Moose comments that he has been waiting all day for that meeting, to see what they get from this "Ranger Program". The three are surprised to see Arthur in the waiting room as well, as he's only been active for just a week, and isn't fully trained. Colonel Xiao, accompanied by Joi, approaches them, and leads the newly chosen recruits onto the bridge of the Destiny, where he reveals that Bell has been dismissed from the program, and in their hearts, they know why. He then goes to tell the cadets of the story of the Arkeyans' invasion of earth, and the process of Star Battleforce's acquisition of the Sector Keys in order to liberate the Universal Sectors claimed by the Arkeyans. Arthur claims that he has only been at Star Battleforce for a week and has no training experience. Bell then bursts in, very angry and claiming that he spent ten years in training, but Colonel Xiao claims he had a reason for it, and after Bell gets into a brief fight with him, gives him a final warning: any negativity towards S.B.F. personnel again, or he will be dismissed for good. After Bell leaves, Moose jokes that he'd probably abuse his power anyway if he hadn't been shown the door. To this end, the four cadets are assigned Sector Keys; Arthur is assigned the Leo Sector Key, Megan is assigned the Chamaeleon Sector Key, Ryan is assigned the Dorado Sector Key, and Moose is assigned the Taurus Sector Key. They are then presented with Uni-Controllers to utilise the powers of the Sector Keys to become part of Star Battleforce's army of Power Rangers, to combat the Arkeyan army. After Joi detects a distress call from Planet New Austin, Colonel Xiao sends the newly-recruited rangers out to investigate.

On Planet New Austin, Arkeyan forces, led by Volstagg, are preparing to invade the city just as the four rangers arrive on the planet by a Runabout-class ship. Although Arthur doesn not now what he's supposed to do, he watches as Moose, Megan and Ryan morph into action as the Star Battleforce Rangers. In response, Volstagg sends his horde of Roswells to attack, and the battle begins, as Arthur looks on in amazement for a second, before he inserts his Sector Key into his Uni-Controller, and attempts to shoot to morph, to no avail. The other three are fully capable of holding off the Roswells, and use a Universal Weaponization System for their own personalised weapons. Arthur tries to fight unmorphed, and tries to save an alien child in danger, only to be restrained by a horde of Roswells. To this end, Megan gives Arthur a tip: flick the Sector Key forwards on the controller. Arthur, realising what he has to do to morph, breaks free from their hold, and does what Megan says, and he morphs into Star Battleforce's Red Ranger for the first time. Before he helps his teammates out, he turns his attention to the alien child and gets him to safety, and deals with Volstagg on his own. As Ryan comments that it took him long enough to join the fight, it's a one-on-one duel between Arthur and Volstagg, and the battle's in Arthur's favour as his U.W.S. is set to Uni-Saber, and performs a Leo Impact Slash to weaken his defences, before Moose, Ryan and Megan, having dealt with the Roswells, join him for a combined Sector Blast attack, seemingly finishing Volstagg off, but unbenknownst to them, Volstagg escapes.

Following their first victory, Phil Bell is thinking about ways to get back at the crew following his spot being taken away from him, as Arthur passes by. He boasts that he'll find a way to use his skills one day to make him pay for his humiliation one day, but Arthur is still trying to process what he said. The others are on the bridge chatting about what's in store for them now since an army of Power Rangers is being put together, with Moose wondering how many rangers they could possibly fit on the team; Ryan thinks there could be nine, or eleven, or even twelve, or thirty, if they get the right amount of Sector Keys. Arthur joins them, and Megan asks him how it feels to be out of comfort zone for once; Arthur replies by stating that he certainly has a lot to learn, and he has a good feeling about doing so. Colonel Xiao confirms this, and tells the first four rangers that there is a lot to learn for all of them, and more rangers are set to be sought out in due course. Ryan then suggests that if Arthur wants real training, he should go to the battle simulator, leaving Arthur excited. Meanwhile, on Planet Lupaxia, a blue, wolf-like creature arrives at a bar on his homeworld, where a TV broadcasts a report about Sector Keys being located across the galaxy, only to notice that he has a Sector Key of his own.
