Power Rangers S.P.D: Once & Always is an American superhero fanfiction special serving to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Power Rangers S.P.D.. In the special, the new B-Squad Rangers have to stop an intergalactic Revanchist army that wishes to revive the Troobian Empire with the help of a devastating plant.
Synopsis[]
After tragedy strikes, an unlikely young hero takes her rightful place amongst the Power Rangers to exact revenge on the team's oldest arch-nemesis.
Plot[]
In 2045, in Newtech City, since the victory of the SPD Rangers against the Troobian Empire, a well-deserved calm has reigned over the city for 20 years, even if a few isolated individuals sometimes try to disturb this peace without representing any real major threats, until a sudden bomb attack upsets the worries of its inhabitants. The Lightspeed Rescue team is already on site to help the injured civilians. A suspicious person was spotted on a rooftop and police officers arrived on the scene and alerted Commander Sky Tate, who sent the new B-Squad composed of Bridge, Lina, J.J., Z, Syd, and Sam, who was recently promoted to the B-Squad 5 years ago by becoming the Omega Ranger (but of course, the latter is not aware that his original self from 2040 had gone back in time to 2025 to lend a hand to the B-Squad of that time and Sky judged that it was not necessary to inform him).
After arriving at the scene, the SPD Rangers try to extract information from this mysterious woman, but she speaks in an unknown language. This woman engages in combat and quickly puts the Rangers in difficulty, but as she is about to escape, suddenly Bridge intercepts her with a new power-up called the Delta Booster Sentinel and attacks her. As Bridge was about to lock her in a mini prison for interrogation when the other Rangers try to shoot her, the suspect then uses her sword to create a diversion before vanishing. Z, unmorphed, found a hairpin the suspect had dropped, scanned it, and sent it to Kat. Commander Tate then ordered the Rangers to return to Delta Base immediately.
Z, unmorphed, found a hairpin that the suspect had dropped, scanned it, and sent it to Kat. Commander Tate then ordered the Rangers to return to Delta Base immediately. Upon arrival, Commander Sky gave them a brief briefing on the situation. Thanks to the hairpin Z found and the symbols on it, Sky immediately recognized it. It belonged to a Revanchist movement seeking to restore the former Troobian Empire, and only the most important people in this movement possessed this symbol. This woman was revealed to be Sima, a member of this movement who possessed this symbol too. Commander Sky reminded his Rangers of the large-scale offensive called "Operation Prime" that he led two years ago on the planet Ban:
The high-ranking members of this Revanchist movement were hiding there, and violent clashes took place there. During the battle, the B-Squad and Sky, morphed into the Deka Ranger at that moment, were busy on all fronts. Captain Felicia Tate, who was the team's Gold Ranger, had found one of the high-ranking members of this movement but unfortunately, she was ambushed and executed on the battlefield. Enraged, the S.P.D. Deka Ranger charges at the criminals who executed his fiancée in cold blood. Blinded by anger, he manages to eliminate quite a few criminals but they call for reinforcements and use significant firepower to repel Sky and fled, leaving Sky unconscious with serious after-effects.
Some time later, on the same planet, they track down the criminals thanks to spies scattered throughout. Following the destruction of his Morpher during the assault on Planet Ban, Bridge lends Sky the Delta Booster Sentinel armor to lead the assault to avenge his fiancée. Bridge wanted to accompany him during the assault so that his old friend wouldn't do anything stupid. Unfortunately, he couldn't stop it, and with the help of the Delta Booster, Sky eliminates the leader of the criminal movement. The latter's right-hand man, Skirak, was able to escape during the assault, also vowing revenge on the SPD. But Sky revisits the leader of the movement's last words, who told him that even if he disappeared, it wouldn't prevent the success of his plan and that he and his B-Squad wouldn't be able to stop him.
Kat then arrives and received further analysis from the scientific section. She discovered that a strange element was used in the bombing. This element is called Paratonium. When mixed with combustion, paratonium can spread through the air, releasing particles capable of causing disastrous side effects on the environment and health. A few days ago, in a warehouse, there was an explosion that had previously been classified as an accident. Criminality had even been ruled out. But strangely, the site of the explosion was releasing paratonium particles, and not far from the two explosions, seeds of an extremely rare plant called Nephilmos, known to adapt to any type of environment and spread the quality of the air around it for several kilometers, were found. A botany expert named Orkilia lives in Newtech City and, oddly enough, is seen on CCTV footage talking to Sima. Commander Sky then sends Sky to the scene to question her while the others continue their investigation.
Across town, Sam finds Orkilia's lab, but she attacks him upon seeing the SPD insignia. He easily incapacitates her and begins the interrogation by showing her samples of paratonium found at the explosion sites as well as some Nephilmos seeds. Orkilia confesses that she acted under threat from Sima and her superiors to get her to give them Nephilmos seeds and then reveals the Revanchist movement's plan, which consists of causing massive explosions in several strategic locations to disperse the paratonium into the air, followed by a second phase where the Nephilmos will grow at lightning speed, covering the world and amplifying the spread of paratonium thanks to its unique properties. This plan would have disastrous consequences because no cure has been discovered to date to counter a large-scale spread of this toxic substance. Sam then reported everything to his teammates and now understand what the leader of the movement meant when Sky killed him.
At Delta Base, the SPD Rangers try to guess the location of the next attack but then receive a call from a civilian who says he saw a suspicious person near a church resembling Sima. Coincidentally, this was the church where Sky's fiancée was being paid their respects. Sky first demands the civilian give his identity and a detailed description of his physical appearance so that the Rangers on site can recognize him. B-Squad Rangers, without Sam, goes there and meets this civilian. He tells them he was present during the second explosion and that he observed the Rangers fighting Sima.
He then adds that he lost loved ones in the explosion and that he himself was seeking revenge until he found reason and let Space Patrol Delta do their job. The Rangers arrive at the church and demand that Sima surrender immediately and work with them to find her accomplices. Thanks to the translator Kat installed in their Morpher, they can now understand what Sima is saying, but there's nothing surprising in her words since she say to be promised to Emperor Gruumm. But after the latter's arrest, she felt only disgust towards him, but her hatred was even greater when she learned of the fall of the empire.
She has lost all her privileges and, like Skirak and the other criminals affiliated with this empire, they want revenge on Earth. Strangely, Sima begins to surrender without any resistance from her. On Sky's orders via call, J.J. shoots the civilian who had signaled Sima's location and then demands that he reveal his true face, which turns out to be Skirak, having changed shape using the same magic that Mora used to create her monsters. Skirak flees and the Rangers give chase. Seconds after the Rangers exit the church, it explodes, having escaped certain destruction. Skirak is disgusted to see his plan fall through but has not said his last word.
Sam, morphed, joins the rest of the team aboard his Uniforce Cycle accompanied by Sky in the back who reveals to Skirak that thanks to several sources, he had discovered that he was the one pulling the strings from the beginning. Skirak then asks how this is possible, given that the meetings with Sima were well hidden from view. Sky replies with a very nice expression that walls have ears. Indeed, he claims that all this is thanks to a longtime friend who possesses the ability to pass through solid objects and who returned to the ranks of the SPD, operating on secret missions, as the Prime Ranger: Jack Landors. Jack now acts as a top secret agent within the S.P.D. and has therefore repeatedly overheard conversations between Sima and Skirak at the meeting places.
Jack then finally reveals that Skirak's final plan was to blow up the church with the Rangers and Sima inside and thus meet no resistance to the spread of paratonium in the air. However, just as he was explaining the monster's plan, the Nephilmos began to rapidly grow throughout the city, and Skirak took the opportunity to summon his army of Krybots to hold them back. They then morphed into Ranger form, with Bridge using his fire mode and J.J. using his father's Dragon Shield this time, and ultimately doing their roll call. After that, the SPD Rangers then went into battle against the Krybots and their blue-headed variant. Once they were defeated, Skirak boasted, telling the Rangers that the Nephilmos were growing even faster throughout the city. J.J. then asked Kat to send the Zords, and Bridge asked Lina to go help the rescue with her superspeed so they could evacuate the civilians faster and avoid catastrophe.
He then asks J.J., Z, Syd and Sam to use the Delta Megazord to distract the Nephilmos while they find a solution. Bridge, meanwhile, remains there to face Skirak, but even for a second in command, Skirak remains a formidable warrior. Bridge then understands that he is not strong enough to defeat him, to the point of demorphing him, but that Sky can do it for his wife. As Jack had done in the past for Sky, Bridge does the same thing a second time, lending him his Morpher as well as the Sentinel Delta Booster mode to finish him off. Kat sends a small gift to Sky, from Supreme Commander Anubis Cruger, who has been informed of the situation on Earth.
The final battle between Sky and Skirak begins and meanwhile, the other Rangers aboard the Megazord are fighting the Nephilmos plant, but it continues to grow despite everything. The B-Squad fears they won't be able to stop the spread of paratonium in the air. Even Kat is desperate. But against all odds, she receives a revolutionary formula on her computer capable of neutralizing and destroying the Nephilmos. She creates a viral vector and transfers the data into the Megazord. Once done, the Rangers finish off the plant by concentrating all the Megazord's power in a single, powerful attack, completely destroying the Nephilmos once launched at it, eventually disintegrating. On Sky and Skirak's side, thanks to his skills and the Delta Booster armor, Sky manages to defeat Skirak by combining the power of the armor and the Shadow Saber. Sky then judges Skirak for organized crime with mass murder and three counts of bombing. After Skirak's deletion is approved, Sky eventually destroys him with the Shadow Saber and a combined finisher.
Everyone congratulates themselves on this victory and before returning to Delta Base, the Rangers stop by to see Jack to thank him. After that, Commander Sky announces that a new member will be added to the B-Squad: the Nova Ranger. Following this, the commander offers a well-deserved break to the B-Squad. At Delta Base, Kat, who finds herself alone with Commander Sky, takes the opportunity to ask him a few questions about what happened in the last few days, such as "how did he know the exact location of Sima and Skirak's meetings" as well as "who is the person who sent him the formula that was able to neutralize the Nephilmos on his computer", knowing that no cure exists to date. As for the Morpher of the Ranger Prime given to Jack, it does not even appear in the Morphers' registers or even in the confidential files, as if it had never existed, or at least not yet, still according to Kat. Sky then reveals the truth to her, which is as follows:
A visitor from the future appeared before him and revealed that Skirak's plans had worked and that the Nephilmos had spread the paratonium throughout the planet, having had disastrous consequences as well as a ruined world. The visitor's plan was to ensure that the Rangers did not die in the explosion of the church. By doing so, the visitor claimed that after that, the flow of time would be altered in his time and therefore at that moment, this visitor will jump back in time again and transfer the formula to Kat's computer which will then allow him to neutralize the Nephilmos. This person had given Sky the necessary information without giving him too many details to carry out this plan. Kat then quickly understands that this visitor was none other than the Future Omega Ranger, the Sam of the year 2060.
