Power Rangers Rune Beasts is an American superhero drama serving as an adaptation of the 49th Super Sentai series No. 1 Sentai Gozyuger and is the 31st installment of the Power Rangers franchise. The series is Hasbro's fourth production following their acquisition of the franchise, with them continuing from the mainstream continuity established since Mighty Morphin Power Rangers after the plans for a reboot under Jonathan Entwistle fell through.
The series commemorates the franchise's 35th anniversary despite being the 31st season of Power Rangers (due to the absence of another annual Power Rangers series for five years after Cosmic Fury). In the series, the enigmatic Morphin Masters tasked a new team of Power Rangers from a Ranger-less Earth with retrieving rings that contained the powers of past Red Rangers, which were scattered after a great battle against a powerful evil that shook the foundations of the Morphin Grid.
Production[]
After the release of the movie Power Rangers Cosmic Fury: The Search for Zordon in 2026, Hasbro announced that they are planning to renew Power Rangers for another season in 2028 (just in time for the franchise's 35th anniversary), which is titled Power Rangers Rune Beasts and will be adapting No. 1 Sentai Gozyuger. Hasbro also announced that they are moving the production once again to Australia to give the series a new life.
In order to fully revitalize the brand, two of the veteran Power Rangers' producers, Chip Lynn and Ann Austen, are brought back to be the showrunners. Jackie Marchand is also brought back to serve as the head writer for the season, which is her first time back in the franchise since Jungle Fury. This is met with good reception from fans.
During the press conference revealing the series' casts in the 2027's Power Morphicon, Chip Lynn reveals that the series will take a more serious tone and approach reminiscent to Power Rangers in Space. He also added that he is intrigued by the intensity and drama provided by Gozyuger and wanted to keep it for the adaptation.
