Power Rangers Royal Hive is the 32nd season of Power Rangers, serving as an adaptation of the 47th Super Sentai series, Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger. The series is Hasbro's fifth production under their film divisions Allspark Pictures & Entertainment One following their acquisition of the franchise in 2018. The series themes are royalty and anthropods.

The show began airing on March 1, 2025 alongside the "kid-friendly" version of Hasbro's Battle Warriors as part of Netflix's Super-Charged Afternoons programming block after Power Rangers Ancient Legends finished it's run two weeks prior (although an "Episode 0" based on a prequel comic of a similar name aired the week before the series premiere). After Battle Warriors had concluded on TBA, 2025, Royal Hive was joined in the lineup the following week by Hasbro's Fusion Warriors. The week after Royal Hive's finale, the series would be replaced in the lineup by Power Rangers Nitro Charge.

Production

On September 25, 2024, Hasbro told fans during Hasbro Pulse-Con that the next Power Rangers adaptation was already in the works and would be based off the 2023 royalty and insect-based Super Sentai season, Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger although the official title wasn't given at the time as it was shown off as "Power Rangers Season 32".

It was then revealed a few months later in December 2024 during the Ancient Legends panel at that years Power Morphicon event that the adaptation would be called "Power Rangers Royal Hive" with the cast announcement being done at the same time before a teaser trailer was shown off to attendees.

Plot

"With high expectations, human beings from around the world begin to migrate to start a new life in recently built futuristic cities. However, the central government of the United Earth Sphere Alliance gains great military power and soon seizes control of one country after another in the name of "Justice" and "Peace". The year is After Colony 195: Operation Meteor. In a move to counter the Alliance's tyranny, rebel citizens of certain countries that have evacuated to a mysterious base on the Moon, scheme to bring new arsenals to the Earth disguising them as shooting stars. However, the Alliance headquarters quickly catches on to this operation."
―Opening narration (episode 1-7)[src]

"The attacks by the Power Rangers who were sent out by their countries reflected their retaliatory intentions. The Rangers' target is OZ, the organization that had masked it's identity within the Specials Army Corps of the Alliance military. The Rangers had a number of missions to attack OZ... But none of them had worked. The year is After Colony 195 and OZ has finally taken centre stage! With an army of elite soldiers under his command, Treize Kushrenada carries out his plans to destroy the Alliance military. The battle between the Insectorzord pilots sent to Earth and OZ causes the planet to shudder violently!"
―Opening narration (episode 8-18)[src]

"In the year After Colony 175, the leader of the United Earth Nation was assassinated. Five Power Rangers were supposed to have been sent to Earth to take revenge. However since OZ's activities in space took the form of cooperation rather than control, the government decided to accept OZ. In the year After Colony 195 as OZ moves to take over both the Earth and outer space, the Power Rangers are labelled as rebels and are isolated from society... With no place to return to, the Rangers and their zords are forced to fight for a reason to exist in this ever-changing world. "
―Opening narration (episode 19-29)[src]

"To facilitate its reign over the world, the Storm Battalion promoted a new OZ with it's main power consisting of unmanned units called Attack Drones. Certain changes within the Battalion followed after Treize Kushrenada's retaliation which included him being stripped of all power. At the same time, the Battalion was rapidly expanding its area of rule thanks to the highly skilled Attack Drones. After the nations of Earth had accepted the Battalion, execution orders were released for the now isolated Power Rangers. For them, it looks like that the future will take a rather devastating turn for the worse."
―Opening narration (episode 30-)[src]

The story of Power Rangers Royal Hive begins in the year After Colony 195 with the start of Operation Meteor, five disgruntled scientists' plan for revenge against the United Earth Sphere Alliance (and later the tyrannical OZ military organization) for their oppression over a group of recently built cities. The operation involves five young members of nobility who have each been chosen and trained by one of the five rogue scientists, then sent to Earth independently from their base on the moon in extremely advanced assault vehicles, one designed by each of the scientists, known as "Zords". Their vehicles are called Zords because they are constructed from a now rare and astonishingly durable material known as Morph X, which can now only be created in outer space following the materials destruction on Earth many centuries ago.

The five Zord Pilots — Alfred of Shugoddam (pilot of the Stag-Beetle Insectorzord), Harriett of Ishabana (pilot of the Mantis Insectorzord), Malakai of Gokkan (pilot of the Butterfly Insectorzord), Claudius of N'kosopa (pilot of the Dragonfly Insectorzord), and Diana of Toufu (pilot of the Wasp Insectorzord) — now known as the "Power Rangers" originally have no knowledge of each others' existence. Upon first meeting any of their four partners, each pilot believes the other to be enemy pilots in new UESA/OZ assault vehicle designs. Once the young pilots realize that they have the same objective of destroying the UESA/OZ (and in some cases the same mission), they band together to help each other complete their goals.

Notes

  • This is the first series to feature the following:
  • This is the first series in the franchise to be given a TV-PG rating. This is due to Hasbro wanting to go in a more mature and serious direction for their productions as previously seen in the Justice Warriors Series.
  • Even though this is not an anniversary series as well as being set in an alternate continuity, there are references to past seasons of the franchise.
  • This series along with it's two predecessors are part of what is referred to as the "Entwistle Trilogy" (named after the franchise's creative advisor Jonathan Entwistle), a group of seasons regarded by fans to be some of the best entries in the franchise.
