Power Rangers Robo Force is the thirtieth season of Power Rangers, serving as an adaptation of the 45th Super Sentai series, Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger. This series is Hasbro's third production under their film divisions Allspark Pictures & Entertainment One following their acquisition of the franchise. It is then followed by TBA.

Starting from episode 28, the show would air alongside Hasbro's Demon Warriors as part of Netflix's brand new Super-Charged Afternoons programming block until TBA 2024, when Robo Force is replaced by TBA.

Production

In February 2022, Hasbro revealed at the 2022 New York Toy Fair that the next Power Rangers adaptation would be based off the 2021 robot and anniversary based Super Sentai season, Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger. However, the official title wasn't revealed at the time as it was revealed as "Power Rangers Season 30". In early June 2022, it was revealed that the series would be called "Power Rangers Robo Force".

Robo Force is the first iteration of the Power Rangers franchise to be overseen by Jonathan Enwhistle, who had been previously appointed by Hasbro and Entertainment One in October 2020 to oversee development of a proposed Power Rangers Cinematic Universe, as well as the first season to air completely on Netflix, which aired the second half of Power Rangers Dino Fury in 2022. Due to this, several changes were made in terms of the episode count; Robo Force would now consist of one single season and would have nearly the same amount of episodes as the source material but with a few american-exclusive episodes thrown in there too. The reason for this, according to show-runner Simon Bennett, was because Entwhistle had a bold vision for Zenkaiger's adaptation by making things more mature/different in terms of story and elements but also keeping things safe for younger viewers too on certain occasions (Like for example when someone like Danny acts in a comedic manner), thus he opted for this format instead of the 22-episode two-season format which had been in place since the start of the Neo-Saban Era. Robo Force was promoted and advertised more than any previous series with Netflix and Hasbro backing the show with extensive marketing campaigns.

Synopsis

"Countless worlds found themselves trapped within small machines, unable to resist. And the last world to be targeted was......." - Tommy Oliver (Episode 1)

"My whole world changed one day when a part of this mysterious world known as Robotopia had suddenly combined with Earth and at first they seemed harmless enough, so we decided to let them integrate into our society. But then people realized that the cruel Emperor Zenkai who ruled over Robotopia was using the merger as an excuse to invade our planet and other parallel universes so he can become the "Ultimate King" of both Robonoids AND humans! So I've decided to form a resistance movement based on the powers of a group known simply as the Power Rangers. My name is Luke and together with my four new Robotic pals, we became the next generation of Rangers... The Power Rangers Robo Force!" - Opening narration by Luke Davis (Episode 2-present)

In this story, our heroes will fight using the powers of past Ranger teams to stop a group of enemies who are trying to destroy all of the many parallel universes that are surrounded by our world using monsters known as Robo-Beasts. One hero known as Luke Davis, will stand up to this preposterous giant mass of evil who has managed to break into their home world and fighting alongside him are four robotic lifeforms who are from the same race as our villains but these ones are not fueled by hatred and rage like their overlords. They join Luke on his quest to free these worlds from the grasp of the empire, they are the Robo Force Power Rangers!

Notes

  • Like it's Sentai counterpart, this season is the first where the core team consists of only one human member.
  • This is the first series since Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers where the Red Ranger is NOT the leader of the team (In this case it's the White Ranger).
  • This series celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Power Rangers franchise by having it's heroes and items being based on past Ranger teams and Megazords (Like how it's Sentai counterpart celebrated it's franchise's 45th anniversary).
  • This is the first series since RPM where the theme song does not contain the words, "Go Go Power Rangers" in any capacity.
  • This is the first team since Super Ninja Steel to have a Red-Blue-Yellow-White-Pink-Gold color scheme (However, the 'White' hero is a male, and the leader, unlike in Super Ninja Steel).
  • Due to it's more mature story-telling, Robo Force is the first FULL series since Saban bought the franchise back from Disney in 2010 to NOT air on Nickelodeon. Instead the show airs exclusively on the streaming service, Netflix (Dino Fury doesn't count as only Season 2 was exclusive to the platform whilst Season 1 still aired on Nickelodeon).
  • In terms of the main series universe, this series is the first to feature a ranger who is autistic. Luke would've ALSO been the first openly LGBTQIA+ Ranger in main series history if it wasn't for the reveal of Izzy Garcia's sexual preference in the Dino Fury episode, The Matchmaker.
  • Danny is similar to Bulk and Skull from Mighty Morphin - In Space, Marah and Kapri from Ninja Storm, Cassidy and Devin from Dino Thunder, Spike from Samurai, Victor and Monty from Ninja Steel, Ben and Betty from Beast Morphers and Jane and J-Borg from Dino Fury in his limited use of comic relief (Although unlike most comedic characters, Danny does NOT have his own music track that plays whenever he appears on screen).
