Power Rangers Linkin-Riders is a series created by Tokoyami no Nietzsche. It's a sequel to Power Rangers Synchro Bug starring Nikolai and Sofia's four children.

The series is still themed after insects and cyberpunk. Seasons and Wu-Xing elements are involved too.

The Synchro-Rider gimmick has been upgraded to the Linkin-Riders, which allows the four main Linkin-Riders to freely absorb each other and merge their weapons, instead of only specific Rangers being able to absorb all the others.

Plot[]

25 years have passed since the Synchro Bug Power Rangers destroyed the Lucifer System, helped by both the Kuroboshi Special Force and the gang known as Spider Moths.

General Konstantin Sysoev still leads the Kuroboshi Special Force, of which his son Nikolai, now known as "The Edgelord" (both in reference to his new armor and to his fascination for goth music), is one of the Ʃlite captains. Meanwhile, the Spider Moths have become a full-fledged government funded military department, a SWAT group working for the Shin Rossiyan Ground Defense Force, and Axel Kinski, their leader, is known as the Spider-Moth Knight. Rivalries between the two still exist, but they occasionally cooperate.

The socialist republic of Shin Rossiya has been in relative peace for so much time, but the absence of Lucifer and the destruction caused new threats to emerge from the ashes, sparse yet incredibly persistent threats that the Kuroboshi deems "Zombie Syndicates", from racist cyborgs who idolatrate the "Nazi Program" Venjix and call themselves Venjix Knights in the Shin Rossiyan regions of Donetsk and Luhansk, to the Yakuza who holds absolute powers over the far eastern region of Sakhalin-Hokkaido and Honshu.

But the Atlantic Union remains the most important problem. They are waiting for the right time to attack Shin Rossiya, and the Kuroboshi Special Force's higher ups are trying to figure out their plans, forcing new Rangers to be created in order to stop the Zombie Syndicates and protect people.

The Edgelord's wife, biologist Sofia Hoss, has retired from battles and now focuses on her research. Hence, the Edgelord's children Akira, Koharu, Valerio and the young Kazuko have been raised by the Kuroboshi Special Force in a facility known as the Linkin Park and only occasionally do they meet their parents. They have all decided to join the Kuroboshi andnow use a new technology even more advanced than Synchro-Riders, the Linkin-Riders.

Characters[]

Rangers[]

All four main Linkin-Riders count as Black Ranger, but also as red, blue, green and white. Krasnokuroi, Sinokuroi, Zelenokuroi and Shirokuroi are Neo-Russian compound words, coming from "Kuroi" (Black) and the colors Krasnii (red), Sinii (blue), Zelenii (green) and Shiroi (white).

They're associated with bugs, seasons and elements: Krasnokuroi is associated to the rhinoceros beetle, summer and fire, Sinokuroi is associated to the longhorn beetle, winter and water, Zelenokuroi is associated with the stag beetle, spring and wood, while Shirokuroi is associated with the Goliath beetle, fall and metal.

Rangers[]

  • Hitomi Nikolaevna Sysoeva/Himi Shinoda: The youngest daughter of Nikolai Sysoev, being just 15, and a darkwave idol in her normal life (under the nickname Himi Shinoda of band HIVE Militsya). Unlike her father, she isn't interested in becoming a Rider at first, despite being trained to do so, because she hates killing and doesn't feel OK with being part of a team specialized in assassination. Despite hating assassination, she's known for being suited for helping people and protecting her older siblings, and as such Nikolai and the rest of Kuroboshi see a lot of potential in her. As the Shirokuroi Linkin-Rider, her element is Metal.
  • Koharu Nikolaevna Sysoeva: The oldest daughter of Nikolai and Sofia, named after the late Koharu Kravchenko.
  • The Cajun/Rohan al-Haytham: A Cajun from Baton Rouge who had betrayed the Atlantic Union and acted as a spy for Shin Rossiya, he's later recruited into the Linkin-Rider project and names himself "Bayou Buckmoth" from the buck moth caterpillars that live in the Bayou.

Allies[]

  • Michiko Terunosukevich Hayashi: A scientist in the Special Weapon Development division, and a mentor figure for the Rangers.
  • Sofia Kimitakevna Hoss: A famed biologist and the Sysoevs' mother. Once a Synchro Bug ranger, she has now retired from battling and occasionally visits her children to make up for the absence.
  • Yukino Kazutovna Semyonova/Yuki Bathory: Hitomi's friend and a fellow idol of HIVE Militsya.

Villains[]

Villains are various criminal syndicates operating in Shin Rossiya, not a single faction. They are branded as "Zombie Syndicates", referring how they have risen again after the crisis caused by Lucifer.

  • Atlantic Union Forces
  • Zombie Syndicates
    • Yakuza
      • Saviano Family
        • Yoshimoto Armandovich Saviano: Leader of the Saviano family of Yakuza. His old age makes him frail, yet, as the elder of the strongest family in Sendai, he basically has the Sendai police under his control.
        • Alberto Katsuyaevich Murakami: Strongest warrior of the Saviano family. He masters Kurochitatsu-ryu, a violent style of karate of Italian origin, and the Atlantic Union gave him a special armor called Chrono Booster to improve his speed and reflexes.
      • Honda Family
        • Ruperto Giovannievich Honda
    • Venjix Knights
      • Hidetoshi Tsunetomovich Hrytsenko/Stepan Venjixovich Hrytsenko/Schroedinger Knight/The Avatara: Leader of the Venjix Knights, an apocalypse cult centered in Ukraine which combines Buddhism and Neo-Nazism and worshipping of Venjix. He hates his name Hidetoshi, which is Russian in origin, and wants to be called Stepan Venjixovich (the name is taken from Ukrainian Nazi Stepan Bandera and the patronymic means "son of Venjix"). He and his fellow cultists were given special "Anti-Ranger" armors by the Atlantic Union. After becoming Avatara, Hrytsenko has gotten hold of a core containing Venjix' data remains, which was a closely-guarded secret of his cult ever since it was founded. As the Schroedinger Knight, he's both alive and dead at the same time and as such cannot die. He's trying to rebuild Venjix' source code and is one with it (in the far future, the rebuilt Venjix containing Hidetoshi, which is put in strict custody of Shin Rossiya after his defeat, will be used by Akira Kinski to create the Lucifer System),
      • Boromir Andriyevich Klymenko/Infinity Knight: One of the two Arch Knights. He uses the Field of Infinity, which allows him to copy his own personality into various people, and makes him unable to die unless all of his copies are destroyed (because he can reincarnate in any of his copies after they die). As he can only shift into one copy at a time (though he can still see and hear from all his copies) he's killed by distracting his copies simultaneously and then locking him in a maximum security cell and throwing him in the sea without killing him, so that his reincarnation will never trigger until he dies of starvation.
      • Reiner Goranovich Melnyk/Nihil Knight: One of the two Arch Knights. He uses the Field of Nihil, which allows him to completely annihilate objects and regions of space around him, making his defense almost absolute, though when he annihilates something, his annihilation effect automatically spreads to everything through contact within a limited range, then, outside that specific range, the annihilation field stops. He's killed by having Valerio's RazorWhips simultaneously touch his palm and his head so that annihilating it would cause him to annihilate his own head.
      • Minor Knights: Monsters of the week affiliated with the Knights. They're people that were kidnapped as children, trained as assassins and cyberneticized.

Notes[]

  • The Longhorn RazorWhip is a real weapon, an Indian weapon called an urumi.
  • Hitomi Sysoeva is the only one of Nikolai's children not to be named after a person who had died in Synchro Bug.
  • It's revealed in this series that almost all of Japan is a region of Shin Rossiya called Nippon, except for Kyushu which is part of Turkey and called Dogan Gunesh. Shin Rossiya extends from what is currently Poland (to the point of bordering with Germany) to what is currently Japan.
  • Nikolai is called with two titles, either The Edgelord or Kamen Rider Ultar.
  • Kamen Rider AK883 is named after AKB48 and 883. 883 are a band famous in the 90s for a song titled "Hanno Ucciso l'Uomo Ragno" ("They Killed Spider-Man"), the pun is on how Akira Kinski, who had a spider-themed Zord, got killed by Lucifer in Synchro Bug, and how Kamen Rider AK883 is themed after both a moth and a spider and its design includes the robot arms used by MCU Spider-Man.
  • Unlike most Power Rangers series, whenever the Linkin-Riders kill an enemy, they're killing a human, as Zombie Syndicate members are human criminals instead of monsters, aliens, demons or robots.
