PR2020 logo This article is about a/an series entry (the second 24th) in the Power Rangers franchise.

Power Rangers Cosmic Fury is the sequel of Power Rangers Dino Fury, serving as an hybrid adaptation of both Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger and Uchu Sentai Kyuranger, with minimal props and costumes from the 38th Super Sentai series, Ressha Sentai ToQger. The first half follows the advent of the Void Queen who returns to exact revenge on the humans who had wrong her and her child and recover the Sporix Beasts that once ravaged Aiyon's planet. In the second half, the Morphin Masters have tasked the Rangers with capturing Lord Zedd and fighting his new forces throughout outer space.

The series is Hasbro's third and last production under their film division Allspark Pictures & Entertainment One following their acquisition of the franchise.

Production[]

Development[]

The decision to adapt Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger was made around April of 2019. On February 22, 2020, Hasbro revealed the Ryusoulger adaptation at the New York Toy Fair 2020, however the official title wasn't revealed yet at the time and simply called Power Rangers Season 24. On May 15, 2020, it was revealed that the adaptation would be called Power Rangers Cosmic Fury. Executive producer Simon Bennett pitched an idea for a potential future season utilizing Zord footage from Uchu Sentai Kyuranger.

Post Production[]

In late April of 2021, it was revealed in an interview with actor Chance Perez that Cosmic Fury would be moving to the streaming service Netflix for the second half of its season upon the 2021 expiration of the series' contract with Nickelodeon, thus marking the transition of the Power Rangers main series to streaming exclusivity. In late May 2021, the series wrapped up filming.

Synopsis[]

65 million years ago, evil alien monsters known as Sporix Beasts ravaged the planet Rafkon before traveling to Earth. However, six Rafkonian knights pursued them and, along with six dinosaurs, were granted the power to become the Dino Fury Power Rangers by the Morphin' Masters. They captured the Sporix, though all were seemingly lost except for the Gold Ranger, Aiyon, who went into stasis to prevent the Sporix's escape. In the present, intergalactic warrior Void King accidentally unleashes the Sporix while trying to steal them, forcing Aiyon and his friend, a cyborg dinosaur named Solon, to recruit a new team of Rangers consisting of Amelia Jones, Ollie Akana, and stepsiblings Izzy and Javi Garcia to help in their fight.

But 6 months after, when Lord Zedd returns more powerful than ever, Team Cosmic Fury takes to the cosmos to battle the emperor of evil - and save the universe as we know it.

Errors[]

  • In E2, Aiyon says the Rangers have to complete the morph sequence fully to morph, but many times the Rangers morph by simply shouting "Link to Morphing Grid!" and touching their Cosmic Morphers.
  • After adding the first Sporix to Void King's machine, the meter was almost halfway full, but it took more than two more (like it should have) Sporix to activate and save Santuara.
  • Void King also stated he did not want to hurt any humans, but he explicitly was ok with killing five Rangers.

Notes[]

  • As with other seasons, this season also differs from its canon version:
    • The Cosmic Fury costumes are the team's main costumes. Which means that the Modern Dino Fury Rangers never used the powers of their predecessors.
    • Tarrick was never Void Knight.
    • The one who was in stasis at Dinohenge was Aiyon and not Zayto, who ended up in the sea. By the way, Zayto is the Sixth Ranger of the season, not Aiyon.
  • Several cast members from Ryusoulger such as Hayate Ichinose, Tatsuya Kishida, Keito Tsuna, and Seiya Osada, have publicly acknowledged Cosmic Fury, with Cosmic Fury cast members Chance Perez and Kai Moya responding to their Japanese counterparts' kind comments.
  • Cosmic Fury was originally scripted to be 25 episodes long in accordance with Nickelodeon's contract, but was picked up for a full 49-episode order
  • In some countries including India, the first season had premiered exclusively on Netflix.
  • On May 6, 2022, Cosmic Fury became the first season of Power Rangers to win a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Kids & Family Programming.
  • Cosmic Fury is the first Power Rangers series to have step-siblings on the Power Ranger team.
  • In Indonesia, the RTV dub airing removed scenes that reference Izzy and Fern being partners. The Matchmaker was ended early, and Crossed Wires was skipped.
  • In Poland, the episodes Stitched Up, Love Hate and Things Unspoken were skipped when the series aired on TVP ABC.
  • Though Cosmic Fury is an adaptation of Ryusoulger and Kyuranger at the same time, many fans expressed their disappointment with Hasbro's decision to not utilize the Kyuranger suits, with the Cosmic Fury suits also receiving negative feedback.
  • Cosmic Fury marked the franchise's final installment filmed in New Zealand and this is the last season of the Hasbro Era as ZenithFilms Media Production acquired Power Rangers franchise from Hasbro. The next season, Power Rangers Gem Paladins, is the first season of ZenithFilms Era.
  • The series marks the first adaptation of Deathryuger from Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger: Gaburincho of Music in the live-action Power Rangers continuity, which was not previously available during the production of Power Rangers Dino Charge due to licensing issues that were not resolved in time before production ended. However, the helmet supplied by Toei is actually of Kyoryu Navy's instead as the streak on the edges of the visor is gray, not red. Bennett stated that this was the helmet Toei had supplied along with the suit, with no reason given as to why the helmet was sourced from a different Ranger. A recolor was considered but heavily disallowed by Toei.
  • Several Ranger colors from Kyuranger do not have direct counterparts in Cosmic Fury. They include Hebitsukai Silver, Washi Pink, Kajiki Yellow, Ryu Commander, Koguma Skyblue, and Houou Soldier.
  • Andrew Laing had voiced Lord Zedd in Power Rangers Dino Fury and was expected to reprise his role for Power Rangers Cosmic Fury. However due to online harassment from fans who criticized his performance for being lackluster in comparison to the late Robert Axelrod, Zedd's original voice actor from Power Rangers Squadron, Laing had stepped down from the role and was replaced by Fred Tatasciore for Cosmic Fury onwards.
  • Super Sentai and Toei Company executive Shin-ichiro Shirakura had visited the set of Cosmic Fury.
  • Cosmic Fury is the first Power Rangers series with an official Orange Ranger.
  • This is the first and only Power Rangers team to have two queer Power Rangers.
  • Although not the first, this team includes a female Red Ranger. Despite Lauren from Power Rangers Samurai being the first female Red Ranger (on the side of good) and the second female Red Ranger overall, being the successor of Charlie, she is not a "main" Red Ranger, meaning Cosmic Fury is the first season to have a leading woman as a Red Ranger.
  • This is the first Power Rangers season to not have a Pink and/or Yellow Ranger with each predecessor having at least one of the two.
