Matthew "Matt" Phillips is the Chimera Ranger (initially introduced as merely the Chimera), initially an enemy to the Super Beast Morphers Rangers, later to become their Sixth Ranger.
Character History[]
Matt moved to Coral Harbor sometime between Beast Morphers & Super Beast Morphers.
Sometime during the series, Matt was kidnapped & experimented on by Vargoyle, who infused him with three animal DNA samples.
Now a Chimera, he is modified to be similar to a Super Beast Morphers Ranger, but with the ability to switch between or combine the three animal powers he has. Psichrome suggests unleashing him to the Super Beast Morphers Rangers just after they defeat his latest Viratron, Royaltron, & he successfully takes all the Super Beast Morphers Rangers down one by one using his various forms.
With the Chimera overpowering the Super Beast Morphers Rangers, the fight took another turn where the Super Beast Morphers Rangers used their megazord combination as the last resort, & were beaten brutally by the Chimera himself before Vargoyle told him to retreat sparing the Super Beast Morphers Rangers.
Devon, having been told by Nate that his father had his DNA mingled with animal DNA, is at first convinced that the Chimera is his father, & thus he resolves to save him. Later, much to the Super Beast Morphers Rangers' surprise, the Chimera was sent to the fight for the second time during Royaltron's second attack, leading to Devon taking the Chimera along with him to the water stream far away to have a fight, with the Chimera overpowered albeit for a while before being render useless thanks to experiment issues & knock down by Beryla before being taken away, leading to Devon's plan to rescue the Chimera.
Matt is finally able to break free after Devon & the other Beast Morphers Rangers tell him to believe in himself, rather than in Vargoyle or anyone else. However, he is reluctant to join the Beast Morphers Rangers as he is unable to control the three animals inside of him.
Personality[]
When he was kidnapped & brainwashed by Vargoyle, Matt was turned into a ruthless warrior.
Once he is freed with the help of the Super Beast Morphers Rangers, Matt is revealed to be an introvert who has had problems befriending others since his childhood, thus making him guilt-ridden for being weak himself. With the help of his new friends, Matt develops more self-confidence by letting go of his regret over everything Vargoyle subjugated him into doing, although he is still prone to getting depressed easily when conflicted about the notion of either criticism or failure.
Powers & Abilities[]
As a result of receiving power from three animal DNA samples thanks to Vargoyle, Matt gained the ability to utilize their powers & abilities to fight as one of the Super Beast Morphers Rangers.
- Evil Sense: As a result of receiving Rhino DNA, Matt now has sensitive hands that can sense evil through his sense of touch. He can tell how much evil is within the essence of others & decide how threatening they are based on the amount he senses.
- Alternate Form: The Chimera Ranger can morph into 3 different forms from the three animal DNAs inside of him: Rhino, Wolf, & Crocodile.
- Enhanced Strength: As a result of receiving Rhino DNA, Matt's strength has been greatly enhanced. Using all his power, the Chimera Ranger can even lift an entire building.
Multitalent: Although Matt didn't believe himself that much, he is the most talented among the team. Such as creating a new Megazord combination & plenty of emergency strategies.

Rhino DNA Mode is the Chimera Ranger's primary form. This power was gained when rhinoceros DNA was infused into Matt. To access this form he turns the cube on his Morpher to the Rhinoceros side, activating his black form & powers.

Wolf DNA Mode is one of the Chimera Ranger's alternate forms. This power was wolf DNA was infused into Matt. To access this form he turns the cube on his Morpher to the Wolf side, activating his silver form & powers. In this form, he has immense speed & prefers to shoot rather than an attack at close range.

Crocodile DNA Mode is one of the Chimera Ranger's alternate forms. This power was gained when crocodilian DNA was infused into Matt. To access this form he turns the cube on his Morpher to the Crocodile side, activating his gold form & powers. In this form, he is physically stronger & prefers to attack at close range.

Chimera Ranger (Tri-DNA Enhanced Mode)
In Tri-DNA Enhanced Mode, the Chimera Ranger uses the total of all his animal powers. His crocodile side provides him with a tail on his right arm for whipping attacks while his wolf side gives him claws on his left hand for slashing attacks. He is also armed with horned shoulder armor provided by his rhino side.

- A fake Chimera Ranger was created as part of a fake Super Beast Morphers Ranger team by Admiral Karban via scanning Psitron's memory. He was defeated by the real Super Beast Morphers Blue, Super Beast Morphers Yellow, Super Beast Morphers Green, & Super Beast Morphers White.
- A copy of Matt was created by Psitron via scanning Beryla's memory as a plan to lure Vargoyle into Earth so that he could get his revenge on him.
Notes[]
- Matt shares the same name as the older brother of Riley Griffin in Power Rangers Dino Charge.
- Interestingly enough, Matt Griffin was originally slated to be the Graphite Ranger as per casting sides before Prince Phillip was revealed in the Graphite Ranger action figure's bio.
- The Chimera Ranger is the first Ranger, in his default form, to represent a combination of various colors & powers. As a result, he has three Ranger forms in one, each with its own power set, theme, color, & number assignments. Orion of the Super Mega Rangers has done something similar, but as a combo of two powers each, as a combo of Ranger Operators Series Gold & Silver.
- Matt is one of two Super Beast Morphers Rangers who is eventually able to use Tri-DNA Enhanced Mode to channel more than one animal DNA power at once, the other being Devon Daniels.
- Unlike Devon, however, he starts with this ability & has never channeled each DNA enhancement separately, making it uncertain whether he even can.
- He is the second Black Sixth Ranger after the Gold Zeo Ranger from Power Rangers Zeo.
- Matt is the first Ranger to have a crocodile motif.
- Two of the three zords that he pilots are the same as Merrick Baliton/Lunar Wolf Ranger. One of them is a silver wolf as well.
- Two of Matt's zords share similarities with those of the Ranger Operators Ranger Gold & Silver. The Crocodile Zord is similar to the Falcon Chopper in that they're both gold & are appointed 7. Similarly, Matt's Wolf Zord is silver, based on a quadruped, & numbered 8, like the Tiger Jet.
- Matt is the fourth 6th Ranger to start as evil through brainwashing; the first was Tommy Oliver, the second being Ryan Mitchell, & the third being Trent Fernandez-Mercer.
- Matt is the first Power Ranger ever to have a weapon with a fishing rod mode.
- His weapon's Fishing Rod Mode makes it similar to Merrick's Lunar Cue as both had a form that was based on a sport or hobby that the Sixth Ranger participated in.
- He is similar to Sir Ivan of Zandar/Gold Dino Charge Ranger from Power Rangers Dino (Super)Charge for the following reasons:
- Both were turned evil against their will in one way or another; Ivan was trapped inside Fury for centuries, while Matt was brainwashed into becoming evil.
- Both were at first mistaken for the Red Ranger's missing father; Tyler thought Ivan was his father, James, & Devon thought Matt was his father, Mayor Daniels.
