Fern is Izzy Garcia's rival and later girlfriend who becomes the Cosmic Fury Orange Ranger of the Cosmic Fury Rangers and a main protagonist during the second half of Power Rangers Cosmic Fury.
History[]
Cosmic Fury[]
Fern was first introduced as a rival of Izzy Garcia during a marathon race. During the race, when she catches up to Izzy, Fern tripped on a root and fell into a pit. Fern’s ankle is injured, and Izzy decides to go down and help Fern even though she will lose her lead. As Fern gets a ride back by officials, Izzy begins to rejoin the race, although she left to go after Boomtower. Since Izzy was willing to sacrifice her chance of winning to help her, the two ended their rivalry and eventually became friends.
Fern later catches up with Izzy and Zayto at Coach Bella's gym, where she revealed her injury had healed since then. She was among the other participants that were told by Izzy that Coach Bella was swindling them, and they all leave her gym and start taking Izzy's lessons.
When Javi noticed Izzy is in love with someone, he went to Fern for advice in order to set his sister up with his friend, Adrian. Fern, who have had a crush on Izzy, was visibly saddened by the thought that Izzy is in love with someone else and but she reluctantly agrees to Javi's plan. Eventually it was revealed to be a misunderstanding and Izzy was never in love with Adrian, but instead with Fern. After finishing their exercise in the park, Izzy and Fern walk away, holding hands, revealing that they are dating.
Sometime later, Fern catches up with Izzy, who had been studying for electronics before her friends show up. The following day, she shows Izzy her test results, saying she was proud of her. Fern, alongside Izzy's friends, watch her going with Pop-Pop to fix his leaf blower.
Later on, Fern asks Izzy to the prom, and she accepts with Izzy's mother, Rina offering to make the formal wear. When Izzy got a dress and threw it out, she got a message from Fern, who had gotten a tux, saying the bags got mixed up. Izzy and Rina later make a new dress for her before the day of the prom, where they take a group photo, along with the other Rangers.
Fern and Izzy later participate in Buzzblasts's Valentine's Day theme challenge, which they win, and notice Ollie with flowers, meant for Amelia, but he makes up someone in front of her.
Fern was later accepted into a college at Oakdale before being caught up by Sporix Beasts and Zentinels, which separated her from Izzy. When the Green Ranger saves her and Warden Garcia, Fern becomes concerned for Izzy, even expressing to the Green Ranger how she loves her, but is comforted by her. When she hears Izzy declined her own Oakdale grant from the latter's father, Fern left, upset. At the bus stop to Oakdale, Izzy catches up with Fern before expressing her love for her as well. This led to Fern realizing her girlfriend was the Green Ranger, but kept it discreet before leaving on the bus. As she does so, Fern called out to Izzy, hoping the power protects her.
Izzy and Fern were packing for Oakdale University when Izzy was called back to Dinohenge to support the others. When Izzy did not meet Fern as expected, the latter went to Dinohenge to retrieve her, but was caught in a firefight and was brought to the base by Javi, briefly shocked to see him with a cybernetic arm. With few options, Solon and the Rangers were forced to hit an untested "danger button" on the base console that was later identified as an emergency translocator, transforming it into the Cosmic Cruiser and launching everyone aboard into space. Fern was likewise stranded with the Rangers but her relationship with Izzy made the accident bearable.
Largely cast as the "damsel in distress", Fern was frequently ordered to stay behind as the other Rangers went about their business. But it was she who came up with the idea to masquerade as a monster-metal band as a means to retrieve the Cosmic Dragon Zord ahead of Ollie, Squid Ink, and Zedd's goons, as she has trained on drums.
Solon was abducted by Scuttleworms while attempting to repair the cruiser on Erridus; and while the other Rangers were busy fighting Ollie, Jozotic, and some giant Copyguards, Fern, who had stayed on the ship to track Billy and Solon, grabs the only weapon she could find, the sixth Cosmic Morpher, and sets out to rescue the Rangers' mentor. She finds Solon trapped in a nest of hatchlings and blasts the babies with the Morpher when they hatch and attack. After freeing Solon, two adult Scuttleworms arrive and attack them. After Solon jumps in the way of an attack meant for Fern, damaging her cybernetics, Fern goes to her aid. Upon touching Solon, the Cosmic Morpher reacts and fuses Solon's biological DNA with the Morpher and connecting Fern to the Morphin Grid. When Fern stands up to protect Solon, she is instantly transformed into the Orange Cosmic Fury Ranger, with power and weapons derived from Solon. Both are stunned and excited by this recent turn of events, and relay the incident to the other Rangers when they reunite aboard ship. Izzy in particular is thrilled that her partner can now fight by her side.
In her first official Zord mission, Fern and the Rangers attempted to infiltrate Earth to liberate it from Zedd, but Tarrick's spy, Heckyl, failed to disable the shield, resulting in them landing roughly and sent to Zedd's prison. However, Zayto, Aiyon, and Solon, with help from Tarrick's resistance, manage to rescue them before she, the other Rangers, Billy and Heckyl stay behind to deal with the Zentinels.
Fern and Izzy went to New Zealand, dubbed New Zeddland, and manage to liberate before turning to Pine Ridge, where sometime later, Aiyon returned with Mucus and Slyther, intending to use them to get onto Bajillia Naire's ship, find the Triceratops statue and destroy it to free Ollie.
Personality[]
Fern starts determined to win the race. However, she becomes friendly after Izzy comes to her aid when she gets injured. From this point on, Fern and Izzy slowly cement a relationship. Between the two, Fern is the sensitive and compassionate reflection of Izzy's tomboyish and competitive nature. Yet the two come to respect and admire each other despite each other's quirks, even though outside influences often keep them apart for long periods of time. But when Fern finds herself on the wrong side of a tough situation, she knows she can count on Izzy and her friends to help her deal with it.
Fern proves capable of thinking outside the box when her Ranger allies hit a wall. It is this degree of resourcefulness, coupled with her quick learning and compassion above, that helps her become a Ranger, even if she stumbles after getting her feet wet in the role.

- Fern is the first female Orange Ranger to make an appearance in the franchise, although there have been several Orange Rangers that appeared before her.
- Not counting non-human Rangers such as Zayto or Aiyon, Fern is one of the few human Power Rangers to not have a last name revealed.
