Decay was a tooth-themed gold body Shadon of the Shadow Empire.

Character History[]

Mendulla sends Decay to Earth to cause people a lot of pain & suffering and thus gain a megaton of dark energy. As the Gem Rangers worry about the recent emergence of Emperor Devroth, Decay attacks Sector Z-97 of the South Coast Region but it is very far away from SCRTC so they decide to take the Bullet Aqua Machine there to save time. Sector Z-97 turns out to be a children's playground where Decay & some Rakers have crippled everyone there & Ally immediately correctly guesses his Shadow Mask. Whilst most of the Gem Rangers take on the Rakers, June goes straight for Decay but her sword bounces straight off of his thick tooth & he kicks her down at which point Ally & David try to use their blasters but they bounce straight off of Decay's head. At David's request, the Bullet Aqua Machine does a search of Decay & detects that his apparently indestructible head is his one weakness. Hearing this, Josh calls Austin but he is preparing for his final battle with Lumynox so doesn't attend. Despite this, Ally & David blast Decay whilst June performs a stab straight into his weak spot with her sword but is thrown straight off. He then gives all three of them cavities before trying to do the same to their comrades only to realize that he is low on power & can't do that anymore before walking away to recharge. Sean tries to stop him but Decay escapes when David forces him to stop.

Later, as Sean & Josh spy on Austin preparing his last meal before his duel with Lumynox, Decay returns although it is now with the mission to capture a Gem Stone for Emperor Devroth's purposes. Attacking some people by some steps, Decay tries to give them cavities but June blocks the blasts with her shield. Along with her two other crippled teammates, they try using giant toothbrushes to weaken the enamel around Decay's head but it is useless & he bashes them all away. Using Plan B, Ally uses the Phoenix Arrow Morpher to enable her & her teammates access to the Phoenix Gem Armor & David forces back Decay whilst June blasts him & Ally unleashes an unstoppable laser into his head as her friends restrain the Shadon. Unfortunately, Lumynox arrives & deflects the blast instead before delivering a beat-down to the three as Decay laughs maniacally about it. Unfortunately, due to Austin's mind trapped in an illusion, he thinks he is fighting Lumynox & not Josh & Sean & thus Josh sends the Bullet Aqua Machine. Unfortunately, right when it arrives, the Bullet Aqua Machine itself is affected by the cavities although it does manage to snatch up Lumynox & fly off with him. By doing so, it deposits Lumynox in front of Austin & breaks the illusion which prompts him to morph. Meanwhile, Decay pulls out a rake & prepares to obliterate the three crippled Gem Rangers only for Sean to blast it away with the Diamond Breaker before landing atop Decay's head with a variation on the Diamond Drill Attack. This variation of the attack is centered on the center of the Diamond Breaker & drills straight through Decay's head, mortally wounding the Shadon who can only give a quick advice about tooth brushing before exploding.

Due to not gathering enough dark energy, Mendulla was unable to send in a Shadoomer using his Shadow Mask.

Personality[]

Decay was a very sadistic individual who loved to cause people pain through cavities & frequently spoke in mouth & tooth based puns.

Tooth Decay: Decay's signature ability where he could shoot purple energy balls from his horn at his opponents' mouth that gave them a toothache, which will be removed if he is destroyed.
- Gem Machine Infection - As seen with the Bullet Aqua Machine, Decay was able to infect Gem Machines & cripple them with his ability too.
Recharging - Decay was able to refill his power after some time.
Face Changing: Like Madhouse before him, Decay could change his facial expressions, which was shown when Sean was drilling through the top of his head with the Diamond Breaker.

Abilities[]

Strength - Decay was able to send June to the ground with one kick & a backhanded strike sent David sprawling.
Durability: Decay was able to completely shrug off multiple slashes from June's sword to his head & even the Diamond Breaker took a noticeable amount of time to break through it.
Deflection - The top of Decay's head had a deflection effect that flung June off when she tried to stab him directly in his weak spot.

Weaknesses[]

Cavity Head Top: The top part of Decay's head was his weak spot. Drilling into it for long enough killed him instantly.
- Vulnerability to Drills - Decay's tooth-head is extremely strong, but the Diamond Breaker easily drilled straight through it & killed him.
Power Limit: There is a limit to Decay's tooth decay ability since every time he runs out of power, he has to go recharge it for a while.

Arsenal[]

Rake: Like the Rakers, Decay was armed with a rake-like staff for combat.
- Energy Blasts: Decay could charge up the three barrels of his rake with yellow energy to presumably fire energy blasts of the same color but he never used it since he was stopped by Sean with Austin's Diamond Breaker.

Decay is the second tooth-themed monster in Power Rangers history.
Decay's ability to cause the Gem Rangers' tooth decay is similar to Cavity's Decaying Lasers.
Decay is the first Gold Body Shadon not to have a Shadoomer counterpart, & the third Shadon overall.
