Crystal Maze is the twenty-first episode of Power Rangers Universe. This episode is the second in a two-episode arc revolving around Wild Bill's escalated feud with the O'Neil Brothers. It features the supposed destruction of all of the O'Neil Brothers except Elwood O'Neil; two of the brothers are revealed to have survived 27 episodes later. It also features the partial return of Moose since "The Master and The Molotov", albeit still in the middle of repairs.
Synopsis[]
Wild Bill's unhealthy obsession with the O'Neils reaches boiling point after they secure a major weapons contract meant for Star Battleforce, which leads him to take matters into his own hands. Meanwhile, Arthur, Megan and the others are struggling to reach a consensus as to move forward with their mission to retrieve the next Sector Key at the same time as locating Toxstatin.
Plot[]
On the Destiny's promenade, the bartender is lambasting Florian, Bronzee and a few other patrons for being "drunken, white-trash hillbilly wallaces" as Wild Bill comes in to get a drink. Florian invites Wild Bill to their drinking game, and quizzes him on the latest episode of his beef with the O'Neils. He learns that there is a major weapons deal from the arms dealer Vom Feuer that Star Battleforce is bidding for, and Bronzee asks him if he wants to contribute to Star Battleforce's bid. Wild Bill doesn't have any Galacticoins, so Bronzee gives him some. Meanwhile, Russell has just finished up on some compulsory repairs for Moose, and has reached a point where he can run a test on him. After Russell gets Moose's circuits going, a still-incapacitated Moose wakes up, much to Russell's surprise, and speaks, and has no idea of how he got there, and the last thing he remembers was being blown up by Toxstatin. Russell is visibly shocked, yet amazed at the same time, and longs to show the others this. Meanwhile in the shuttlepod hangar, Bronzee has taken Wild Bill to the place on the station the auction is happening, and uses Bronzee's money to place a bid - only to learn from S.B.F. Major Leonard that the O'Neils emerged as the highest bidder and secured the contract with Vom Feuer. Incensed, Wild Bill beats up Major Leonard, and sees the O'Neils' ship departing the station; angered, he goes off and follows it, departing in his voyager.
An incensed Bill proceeds to set a course for the O'Neil's alleged location, and because the O'Neils can access his contact information, he receives a call from Elwood. From there, he proceeds to furiously insult Elwood, especially about the recent arms deal, but Elwood claims it's "busineess", and offers a discussion with Bill at their "farm". Wild Bill refuses, and makes a direct threat to attack their meth lab. On the Destiny's bridge, Russell takes Moose - who is bound to a wheelchair due to his damage, and explains the circumstances of his recovery to Colonel Xiao, along with Arthur, Megan, Ryan and Joi. Moose explains to the crew why he put himself forward to take the near-fatal blow intended for Dimitri, as his life was able to be saved, and Dimitri's was not; Arthur says it actually makes sense, given that Moose is a robot, and Dimitri's a humanoid. This allows Megan to provoke a further discussion about Toxstatin and his alleged attempts to dethrone His Magnificence, and what their next move to locate him preemptively is. Ryan notes that for five days, it has been predominantly difficult for Star Battleforce intelligence to locate Toxstatin across the galaxy, even in the Scorpio Sector. Colonel Xiao deduces that Toxstatin himself may have fallen off the grid - deliberatly so, to avoid coming into contact with anyone with links to Star Battleforce. When Colonel Xiao is asked by Megan about Dimitri's whereabouts and whether or not Xiao's been in contact with him, Joi informs the crew that she has been able to track Toxstatin's last known location - Planet Grapeseed, fifteen lightyears near the Scorpio Sector, where, coincidentally enough, is where the O'Neils are said to have set up a meth lab.
Elsewhere, Dimitri, who has spent several days pursuing Toxstatin himself, finally gets a reading that resembles that of his cousin on Grapeseed; in his voyager, he sets a course for the planet. On Grapeseed, the O'Neils arrive at their meth lab - dubbed the "Crystal Maze", and Elwood takes swift action to guard the weapons and the money from any intruders, as Toxstatin is in position to lay a trap for his cousin. Elsewhere on the planet, Wild Bill arrives and scopes out the O'Neils' meth lab, and begins to plot his ambush; Using the Scope Sector Key, he stealthily takes out the lab's guards with his Uni-Controller, and does so while not attracting attention. On the Destiny, as Arthur checks out Grapeseed on the map with Russell, and figures out that this must be Bill time to get his revenge on the O'Neils, Megan tells the crew that she knows very well what Wild Bill has been savouring his role in the Star Battleforce Ranger program, and making his prejudice against the O'Neils one of his main goals, but says that it is not on their priorities, stating they have to concentrate on Toxstatin first due to the likelihood that he is sniffing them out. This prompts Ryan to question Megan as to why she has suddenly decided to take the lead over Arthur, who is allegedly the central figure of the group over his status as Red Ranger; Megan defends this, as she wants the whole team to understand occasionally unstable nature, and the signs he's exhibiting it. At the same time, Russell is able to find Dimitri's coordinates as well, meaning that he's on the planet too. Arthur suggests that they should help him, but Ryan and Joi are against it, stating that Dimitri had made it his main priority to exact revenge on Toxstatin, but Moose and Megan back Arthur up, stating that Dimitri may struggle alone, with Moose even noting that Dimitri will probably need reminding that the team has his back. Colonel Xiao then tasks the rangers with heading over to Grapeseed to locate the O'Neil's hideout, and track Toxstatin, before spinning the Ranger Lottery; this time, Megan, Arthur, Ryan, Joi and Bronzee are chosen, and are subsequently deployed.
On Grapeseed, DImitri has arrived, and is plagued by recent memories as he searches for Toxstatin. At the same time, Arthur, Megan, Ryan, Bronzee and Joi arrive on the planet, and begin to figure out a plan - and realise they need to split up; although Arthur offers to go and help Wild Bill, Ryan puts himself forward to search for Bill, as Arthur may be needed if Toxstatin proves too strong. With that, Megan leads the rest to find Dimitri and Toxstatin as Arthur, Bronzee and Joi follow on. As Wild Bill breaks in to the O'Neil's hideout, morphs, and begins his onslaught on the brothers, Ryan, in his voyager and already morphed, attempts to rush to the location where Bill is. Elsewhere on Grapeseed, DImitri has located Toxstatin, and reaffirms his anger regarding Moose's supposed destruction, and he will not rest until exacts his revenge. The two human/scorpion hybrids duel, with Toxtstain gaining the upper hand, seconds before the other four arrive just in the knick of time. Dimitri says that they shouldn't be here, but it's Arthur who gives Dimitri the courage to fight with them again; with that, as Toxstatin recovers, Megan leads the other four rangers into a morph, and after a roll call, they attack Toxstatin. Meanwhile, Wild Bill manages to break into the house, where Norman, Javier, Dalton, Dale, Earl and Wilton, along with countless other Moonbillies, are defending the house; in a fit of rage, he swiftly overpowers the brothers one by one, as a short distance outside, a defenceless Elwood, having been alerted to Bill's rampage, takes the O'Neils' ship and escapes the chaos. As this unfolds, the five other rangers continue to take on Toxstatin, as Megan and Dimitri team up on attacking Toxstatin, and are able to outmatch him.
After taking out several of the brothers and more guards, Wild Bill finally reaches the meth lab underground, where Otis, Norman, and Ernie are protecting the sanctioned weapons, exports and cash. After seemingly taking out the three remaining brothers, Wild Bill takes a jerry can and and pours a trail of petrol outside and all through the house. He subsequently ignites the trail with a blast from his Uni-Controller, causing the house to explode in a blazing inferno, killing the O'Neils, and in a deranged mood, proceeds to leave the area in his voyager. Elsewhere, the rangers defeat Toxstatin, who activates his A-Drone, prompting the rangers to summon their voyagers; Arthur forms the Voyager Squad Megazord with Dimitri, Joi, Megan and Bronzee, and the group finds themselves struggling against the A-Drone. Meanwhile, Ryan is closing in the O'Neil's farm, only to crash directly into Bill's voyager; he is surprised that Bill managed to exact his revenge on the O'Neils. Bill is too riddled with feral rage at the moment to even think, but the two of them are called on by the rest of the group, who are struggling against Toxstatin, who barely survives the megazord's Universal Arrow Blast attack. That's when Colonel Xiao joins them in, and the three soon arrive on the scene to aid Arthur and the rest, with Colonel Xiao forming the Drago Pride Megazord with Ryan and Wild Bill.
The two megazords take on Toxstatin's A-Drone, but an incensed Bill switches positions with Bronzee, with Bill's Voyager going to the Voyager Squad Megazord, and Bronzee's going to the Drago Pride Megazord. After a long battle, the two Megazords are able to destroy the A-Drone, but Toxstatin escapes. In the aftermath, Dimitri breaks off from the rangers again, stating that he has to make a decision about where he really belongs. Back on the Destiny, Wild Bill is still insane after exacting revenge on the O'Neils, so Arthur ties him up to a chain somewhere on the bridge so he can't cause anymore trouble. Megan notes she's somewhat glad that the O'Neils won't be a problem ever again, and Arthur looks forward to the next stage in retrieving the last Sector Key required for the Prometheus. Ryan, however, wonders what happened to Moose. The scene cuts to the cafeteria, where Russell has placed the incapacitated Moose as a "scarecrow", until crucial parts are secured; Moose is not happy with the idea, and mumbles that he has a bad feeling about it, especially when Florian and Bronzee are partying. Elsewhere, Dimitri has departed Grapeseed, and has left his Star Battleforce uniform behind, and has now donned his hooded cloak again, as he sets a course for Toxstatin, knowing that he is still alive.
