Chpt13 Ep9: "The Tale of a Spear and Two Unlucky Rangers" is an episode in the series Power Rangers: Omniverse.

Plot[]

The scene opens during a cage-fighting match between a man and a woman. The fight is brutal and bloody, and the woman seems to be winning. Suddenly, the male combatant bares werewolf fangs, and we learn that the woman is also a monster – a wraith. The two continue fighting, using their monster weapons and powers. The bloodthirsty crowd, who also seem to be various types of monsters, cheers as the wraith wins and the man’s bloodied body falls to the floor with then a coin sliding out of his palm. The wraith then looks at something onto her hand, having to be a similar coin that the werewolf had. As it glows bright in her hand, she continues to cheer to the crowd over her victory.

Hunter and Kurt have now arrived back inside the bunker. Kurt heads to the hallway of the base to find the storage room and digs through some boxes to locate the spear where he eventually finds it. He then meets back with Hunter in the main hall.

Kurt: [carrying the displayed case with the spear] Oh man, I can't believe we've been sitting on this thing for years now, would've helped out on our past battles against all the guys we've faced after discovering the bunker[Kurt places the case on the table].

Hunter: Alright, let's crack this baby open.

Kurt uses a hammer to shatter the glass display of the case and Hunter slowly takes the speartip out of the box with a grin. As he observes it and comes across with a small initial underneath, his grin fades.

Kurt: What is it?

Hunter: This is a fake.

Hunter shows the lable on the fake spear which reads "Made in China". And tosses it over his shoulder.

Kurt: [scoffs] Of course that's a fake. The Spear of Destiny is among of the rarest artifacts in history. We should dig more about it in the lore.

Meanwhile in Hell, Asmodeus is having a couple of drinks and shows to be drunk and slacking off about how a failure of a demon he is by being unable to retrieve Lucifer's spawn. Then suddenly, Hell's throne room begins to rumble making Asmodeus and other demons stumble about. The doors of the throne room then bursts open in a bright white light, similar to the same entrance that Asmodeus had done previously. Lucifer along with a saddened Damien who's carrying Kaia's lifeless body, have made their way back in Hell. The demons bows on their knees as their master have returned. Asmodeus does the same right in front of Lucifer.

Asmodeus: Oh! Lord Lucifer, it is a pleasure to have you back along with your son. I always knew---

Damien: Hey, I know you. You're the one who used me in trying to free the Shedims.

Lucifer then gets a confused look.

Lucifer: You...tried to free the Shedims?

Asmodeus begins to look nervous as Lucifer grows an angered look towards him. With a motion of his hand, Lucifer flings Asmodeus aside with his power, sending him crashing against the wall. Lucifer then walks up to reclaim and sit at Hell's throne. Damien then joins his father by his side. As Asmodeus struggles to get back up, with a raise of a finger, Lucifer levitates Asmodeus towards him until he gets a hold on him to choke him by the collar.

Lucifer: You have alot of explaining to do.

Asmodeus looks on in a neverous, yet terrified look for what Lucifer is about to do to him.

At the bunker, after hours of beer consumption and researching as the duo has gone through dozens of books and record files, Kurt finds eventually finds some information about the spear's true whereabouts.

Kurt: Okay, Hunter I got something. [reading a passage on a document] According to the Men of Letters files: After Longinus pierced the son of Christ, the spear was passed down from a line of kings throughout across of Europe after being found during the Crusades. It was said to have given many rulers the power to defeat and conquer over all their enemies, and plus, get this, the ability to control reality itself.

Hunter: Well damn, the power to alter ones's reality?

Kurt further explains that the last known whereabouts of the spear had to do with the Nazis and with none other than it's leader, Adolf Hitler, who had actually possessed the spear to ignite the tragic events of WWII. And that the spear was hence "destroyed" during the war. But in truth, it was shattered into pieces and was retrieved by the Allies and had spread the fragments across the globe so that no one else may ever assemble them again.

Once Hunter tries to drink his beer, he notices it to be empty and suggests that he goes out to buy some more. Kurt then asks if Hunter's gonna come back in time to help him clean up with what they've dug up. As Hunter heads for the door, he replies that that's why Kurt is staying behind in the bunker. Kurt then becomes a bit annoyed as Hunter leaves.

In Hell, Damien is trying to revieve Kaia with the use of her soul that he retrieved in Heaven but still fails to do so. Lucifer walks in his room and Damien tells him that he doesn't understand what he's doing wrong in trying to bring Kaia back. Lucifer tells Damien the same thing he said to him before that to start small in using his powers. Though Damien mentions that he's already knows how to control his powers. But Lucifer counters that Damien just doesn't know how to use it properly. Lucifer then suddenly begins to have an idea.

As Hunter is heading to the store to by more beer, the credit card he tries to use to buy them gets declined. He then just decides to buy a slice of pie instead with the small cash he has. As soon as he walks out of the store, he almost runs by a skateboarder across him. And when he heads back to the Impala, he notices a parking ticket in his wind-shield for parking in front of a fire hydrant. At the bunker, as Kurt is sorting the books in a pile in alphabetical order, as he reaches for a book underneath the table, he suddenly sneezes from the dusts and bumps his head underneath the table. As he gets up, he accidentally slips over another book behind him and lands on the tower of books, knocking all of them over. He then hisses in pain and then sneezes once more. He looks on in confusion as to what's going on. With Hunter, he's on the road as he's eating his slice of pie heading back to the bunker and then begins to expeirence a toothache. He then drops his plastic fork and when he tries to reach for it. His steering moves to the opposite road as a truck is incoming. As he picks it up, he grows a surprised look as the truck is blasting it's horn and quickly steers back on his lane but then ends up skidding the Impala on the side of the highway. Hunter then becomes confused as to what's going on as he then still expeirences more toothache.

In Hell, it then reveals Damien with his eyes glowing in gold, focusing his power towards Hunter and Kurt. Lucifer ask Damien on how the day of the duo has been doing. Damien smiles and laughs that they've been having  "one bad day" as it turns out that Damien is able to get a glimpse of all the trouble that's going on with the duo with Damien being the one causing the bad luck towards Hunter and Kurt.

And so as Hunter arrives back in the bunker, he's shown to be furious as he tells Kurt what's happened to him recently. He then gets even more angry as he sees that Kurt still hasn't finished cleaning up the work they've done. Kurt counters that he too is expeirience some sort of "bad luck" lately. Hunter not amused by it, that how their hacked credit card that got declines has never failed before and how Hunter was nearly crashed. As they’re talking, Kurt starts sneezing and notices that he seems to be catching a cold. Hunter's cell phone then rings. It’s Garth asking for help as it reveals that he's with a woman who's tending with the injured werewolf from the cage fight.

Later on the road, Hunter tells Kurt that Garth sounded a little desperate and had no other choice but to accept in helping Garth, he also tells Kurt that this seems to be a part of the bad luck to keep them sidelined as they try to begin their search for the spear. Kurt then begins to realize that what if...this all because of Damien. Hunter not surprised, mentioning that maybe Damien knows what he and Kurt are recently into at trying to find a way to kill Damien.

In Hell, Lucifer asks Damien where the duo are at now, though in truth, he's unable to track them recently as they're riding fast in the Impala and was only able to get slight visions of what he's able to do with them. Damien then goes over on trying to revieve Kaia but still fails to do so. Damien then suddenly bursts out in anger, where at the same time, when the duo are about several miles from Garth’s place, the Impala suddenly breaks down. Hunter grows even more annoyed and is completely convinced that this all because of Damien. They then hide the Impala behind some huge bushes on the side of the highway as they have no choice but to now walk the rest of the way.

About an hour later, it is evening, the duo have arrived at Garth’s house. Garth is relieved to have reunited with the duo after all these years. He invites them inside. They then see a woman feeding a baby what seems to be, a piece of a human heart! To their surprise they try to morph but Garth stops them and tells them that it's his wife and his baby...who are werewolves. He introduces to them his wife Bess, and their baby girl, Samantha. Where Garth mentions he named her after Hunter's once deceased brother who was named "Sam". Garth explains that he met Bess several years prior while he was hunting some werewolves. Bess was a vicitim who was turned into a werewolf where Garth couldn't kill her, so he decided to stay with her and keep her hidden. Where eventually they grew much closer to each other and had a child together. With him then giving up to be a Ranger. The duo becomes slightly moved by this and is happy that Garth managed to have a life after being a Ranger. Garth then tells them why he's called them and then takes the duo to an upstairs bedroom. Bess reveals that she's taking care of her cousin, Bret, who is unconscious on the bed. Bret was also a victim who became a werewolf like Bess. Recently, he was dumped outisde of town and left for dead. When Hunter recognizes cuts on the man’s arms, Bess says the wounds are from a wraith’s spike. Hunter suggests that they should question Bret when he wakes up.

Downstairs as the duo waits, Hunter tries to eat a piece of candy and grimaces in pain. When Hunter reluctantly confesses to Garth that he has a toothache, Garth insists on taking a look. Kurt then begins to cough uncontrollably. Bess notices this and talks him into taking a home remedy for his cold.

Garth takes Dean downstairs to an office that he uses for dentistry. Garth reminds Dean that he studied dentistry before he became a Ranger, so after settling down, he finished his dental degree and now provides dental care for people and even some werewolves who are in hiding. Dean initially protests having an exam, but when Garth finds 17 cavities, Dean relents. Garth breaks out the nitrous oxide and repairs Dean’s damaged teeth, while he apparently has a drug-induced dream about tap dancing like Fred Astaire.

Meanwhile, upstairs in the kitchen, Sam agrees to take Bess family cold remedy, which is mostly cayenne pepper. The concoction leaves Sam writhing on the floor, but afterward he seems to feel better.

Later, as the duo have both recovered, they explain their bad luck to Garth. They reveal that spawn of Lucifer, Damien, is out to get back at them. And how Damien's using his abilities and is throwing as much bad luck on them recently. Garth explains that Rangers such as themselves always suffer in big ways. That knowing what Hunter and Kurt have been through throughout the years as Rangers, that the two of them will overcome the threats their dealing with at the moment.

Upstairs, Brad wakes up and calls for Bess. So everyone heads there and Brad reluctantly confesses what happened. He says there’s a “Fight Club” type of arena in Belgrade, Minnesota, where monsters fight not only for money, but also their lives. Where the matches are streamed on the dark web, and most of the audience is also monsters. He then reveals to them a coin. It shows an engraving on it to which it seems to be fading. Bret reveals he has less than 24 hours left to live as he lost his fight and as soon as his coin becomes a blank, he will die. Against Garth’s advice and despite their current bad luck, the duo decides to head to the location and try to resolve this.

The following day, after getting the Impala to run thanks to Garth's help, on their trip to the monsters’ warehouse, Hunter takes a bite on several grilled cheese sandwiches that Garth gave the duo for the trip. Kurt insisting Hunter to slow down on them. Though Hunter says it's fine, to which it becomes the opposite of that when he hears a rumbling in his stomach. Shortly after the trio arrive and begin searching the place, Hunter gets food poisoning, apparently somehow he is now lactose intolerant. While Hunter is vomiting, this alerts one of the monsters in the warehouse where several of them now surrounds the duo where they get their morphers taken away and tossed inside the fighting cage

As Hunter and Kurt ponder about their current situation, the fight club manager, Cutty, confronts them. He asks the duo what they think they're doing trying to ruining his business. After a heated exchange of words, Cutty says he could’ve killed them, but he's never had two Rangers be featured in his any of his fights. So, he wants to see them “at their best” and plans to force them to fight two of his best fighters. And that they would have to put their lives on the line. He then makes each of them hold a mysterious coin. To which he reveals that he's a pagan deity who takes the lifeforce of others to remain immortal. And that he uses monsters as a source for his immortality. And that taking the lives of two Rangers would make his immortality even expand much longer.

Hours later, as the duo are held backstage, they're  the next in line to be featured to fight. Cutty then passes by them to wish them good luck. He then hands back their morphers to use for the fight, to which he slides in a pair of magical coins in each of them (as they're used to bet their lives on). Hunter asks why Cutty is giving them their morphers for the fight. As Cutty said earlier, he wants to see the two "at their best". And inists that their weapons aren't allowed to be used, only pure fists. Hunter then asks what happens if they win. Cutty then laughs at this, claiming that none of his monsters have ever lost a betting fight. And that is why his business has been running for a long time. Hunter then gives a stipulation that if they win, the werewolf, Bret would have his life restored along with giving him and Kurt some real "luck" (having the chance to wear off the effects that Damien has on the duo). Cutty then agrees to these terms.

The duo are then called up for their fight where they walk a ramp towards the caged ring. The monsters in the audience send out loud boo's as they make their way up. The duo then notices their two opponents. A pair of twin fully-formed werewolves nearing the height of the cage. They snarl viciously as they glare towards the duo. Hunter and Kurt grows a nervous look as too how they can handle the two beasts without the use of their weapons. Hunter wonders if this is even a cage fight, rather than a slaughter match. So, they proceed to morph in their Ranger forms and engages on the twin werewolves.

They each takes on one of the werewolves on their own where they throw quick punches and kicks towards them but are deemed useless.  They then each takes out their weapons and attacks the werewolves but their strikes again does no affect on the two beasts as they're able to regenerate from their wounds. Hunter calls this out towards the fight club manager having be cheating but Cutty only gives off a grin as he didn't warn the duo about this. The werewolves then begins their assault on Hunter and Kurt as they're brutally beaten and tossed around the cage. The crowd full of monsters cheers on as the duo are nearly being beaten to death. Kurt then tells Hunter that each of the wolves are twice the size of them combined, so what if, the two of them takes on one of the wolves at a time to beat them one by one. Though Hunter says how will they do that since any of their attacks won't even hurt the werewolves. Kurt then says they'll have to make one of them unconscious before focusing on killing one of the wolves. And so the duo gets back on their feet and they proceed to scale atop on the werewolves and begins to choke them on a sleeper hold headlock. The pair of beasts tries all they can to knock Hunter and Kurt off of them but are unable to as the duo has their grip set tightly around the heads of the werewolves. Then the one Kurt is handling begins to go unconscious and drops to one knee. The werewolf that Hunter is handling notices and starts to become enraged and then wildly does all it can to knock Hunter off it's back to which it does. Hunter lands hard on the ground as the werewolf tosses him over his head being freed from Hunter. The werewolf then let's out a ferocious roar and begins to charge towards Hunter. Kurt sees this and then quickly takes out his Drago Sword and sees this moment as an opportunity to go for a kill on the werewolf and in swift strike, Kurt decapitates the werewolf before it went for a kill on Hunter. The crowd goes silent as they're in shock of seeing one of the famed cage-fighting werewolves has fallen. Hunter too in surprise how Kurt's plan and their teamwork succeeded. Hunter then urges to finish the job by killing the other werewolf. And so as the duo turns their attention on the other werewolf as it still lays unconscious, a sound of a bell rings and an announcement from Cutty is made and declares Hunter and Kurt the victors of the fight. The crowd of monsters then cheers for the duo where Cutty then joins them in the circle raises their arms as they've won their fight. The two are left in confusion for a moment then Hunter takes in the moment and widens a smile for him and Kurt winning the fight.

Later backstage, the duo asks Cutty why he ended the fight as one of the werewolves was still alive. Though he says that losing both the twin beasts would be bad business for him, and that the goal was to win via KO or death, to which he points out that the duo won both ways. Cutty then tells the duo to reach from the side of their morphers to reveal the coins he had hidden within them earlier. With a snap of his fingers, he empowers the coins with a flow of energy that'd give the duo some luck on their fight against Damien.

Later on the road as they head back toward's Garth's. They stop at a gas station for Hunter to test all his credit cards that weren't working before, to which they miraculously do now as he walks out of the mini-mart with a stockpile of goods along with a whole pie on him. Kurt then asks Hunter if buying all this was necessary. Hunter calls it a celebration for them on for winning the cage fight and to test if the luck they requested from Cutty really works, to which it does as all his fake cards worked and that he's no longer lactose intolerant. Hunter then takes a moment to enjoy the whole box of pie he's bought. Kurt smiles to this then takes the wheel and drives for the rest of the way.

Later that evening, the duo arrives at Garth's and sees Brad to have fully recovered as his life was restored after winning the fight. They bid farewell to Garth and his family. Garth thanks the duo for helping him. Though Kurt suggests that they should be the one thanking them for calling them in, otherwise Damien's misfortunes set upon them wouldn't end if it weren't for discovering the place they had to fight in to get their normal lives back. As the duo heads back in the car, they notice through the window of the house as Garth is preparing dinner for his family. Kurt wonders when their lives would ever turn out the same as Garth's, having to retire from being a Ranger and starting a family. Hunter simply says that they have little to no chance in ever achieving a normal life. Kurt only give a slight nod to this as Hunter then starts the engine and they drive off.
